Most authors type, and nothing here assumes otherwise. What typing does not give you is the editorial half — whether the book works, where a reader drifts, whether it is clean — and that is the part that normally costs £2,500–£6,000.

Or see how it works first

The Coach helps you think. It never writes the book for you.

Where you are

Most people writing a book are typing it, and most advice about book-writing software is about the typing: distraction-free modes, corkboards, word count targets, folder trees. It is a solved problem. Word does it. Google Docs does it. Scrivener does it with more knobs.

The typing was never the hard part. The hard part is everything that happens to the words afterwards, and almost no writing software touches it — which is why manuscripts written in beautiful software still end up in a folder, finished and stuck.

What actually matters when choosing

Does it hold a whole book? Not a chapter. Anything that only reasons about the page in front of it cannot tell you the middle sags, because it has never seen the middle and the end at the same time.

Does it keep your words? This is the one that separates tools now. Some software rewrites as you go, quietly improving your sentences into a house voice, and you cannot afterwards tell what was yours. That matters practically as well as philosophically — platforms and competitions are increasingly asking authors to disclose.

Does it get you out? A book that cannot leave as a properly typeset PDF is a book that will need to be rebuilt by someone else at the end. Ask this before you start, not after 80,000 words.

Does it know what kind of book you are writing? A poetry collection, a screenplay and a textbook are not long paragraphs. Software with one model of text will normalise your form and you will find out three drafts later.

The three things that make the difference

A structure tested before you write it. Publishers test structure before commissioning; that is what a proposal is. Almost nobody writing alone does it, and it is the single cheapest intervention available — a structural problem found at 2,000 words costs an afternoon, and the same problem found at 60,000 costs a year.

An honest read early. Not from people who love you. The question underneath most requests for feedback is not is this good but is this worth continuing, and the people close to you cannot answer it.

Editing in the right order. Structure, then readers, then sentences. Copy-editing a book with a structural problem produces a beautifully copy-edited book with a structural problem.

If you already write somewhere else

You do not have to move. Keep drafting wherever you are comfortable and bring the manuscript in when you want the editorial work done — upload takes Word, Google Docs exports, plain text or a pile of chapter files, and the book arrives as Exact Text, unchanged.

This is how a lot of people here work: written in Word over three years, brought in once, reviewed, fixed, exported. Switching writing software mid-book is disruptive for very little gain. Switching editorial process mid-book is where the actual improvement is.

What Your Book Pro does here

Your Book Pro is a writing studio for people making a real book. You bring the words — typed straight in, dictated if you'd rather talk, or uploaded from whatever you have already written elsewhere — and it does the work that normally costs thousands: structure, editorial feedback, proofreading, a cover, and a publisher-ready export.

One rule shapes all of it. Your words are stored as Exact Text and are never overwritten. Every suggestion arrives attached to a place in your manuscript, and nothing changes until you accept it. Where most AI tools quietly rewrite you into their own register, this one shows you the change and waits. Even the automatic clean-up pass is held to a length check — if it drifts too far from what you actually wrote, the edit is thrown away and you keep your own words. The editorial standards behind the feedback are our own, written for books and specific to your genre, not a general chatbot answering in a good mood.

Type directly into it, or keep writing wherever you already do and upload when you want the editorial work. Either way you get the parts that ordinary writing software does not have: structure tested against your genre before you commit, whole-book editorial feedback drawn from our own editorial standards, two beta readers who read blind, proofreading that queries your voice instead of correcting it, and a publisher-ready export at the end. If you would rather talk some chapters than type them, you can — but nothing here assumes you will.

If you want a human developmental editor for a manuscript going to agents, budget for one on top. This is how you find out whether you are at that stage.
