Tools for authors

Using Reedsy Studio? Here is where Your Book Pro fits.

Published by Your Book Pro

The short answer

Reedsy Studio is a free writing and formatting tool. The Reedsy Marketplace is a separate service for hiring human editors and ghostwriters at professional rates. Your Book Pro is neither: it is book-level AI editorial guidance you control, for authors who want a serious structural read before, or instead of, hiring out.

Keep the tool you like. Add Your Book Pro when you want book-level AI guidance.

Definitions, plainly

Reedsy Studio is a free browser-based writing and formatting tool that exports professional-quality EPUB and print-ready PDF, with optional low-cost subscriptions for extra features.

The Reedsy Marketplace is a separate directory where authors hire vetted human editors, designers and ghostwriters on a per-project basis.

Your Book Pro is an author-controlled book development platform: you dictate, write or upload your manuscript, and it gives book-level guidance - a chapter plan, editorial feedback, beta-reader style reports, proofreading in US or UK English, and print-ready output - without writing the book for you.

What Reedsy Studio is best at

Reedsy Studio's typesetting is genuinely excellent, and the core product costs nothing. Very few tools can say both.

Where Your Book Pro fits

Reedsy Studio does not assess your manuscript, and the Marketplace assesses it at human-professional prices. Your Book Pro sits in the gap.

Who should use which

Reedsy Studio on its own is enough if

  • You have a finished, edited manuscript and only need beautiful export files - Reedsy Studio does that for free.
  • You have the budget and want a named human professional's judgement, which the Marketplace provides.
  • You want collaboration with a co-author in a simple shared editor.

Use both if

  • You want a structural read before deciding whether to pay for a human edit.
  • You want unlimited iterations rather than one report per invoice.
  • Your source material is spoken - recordings, interviews, talks.
  • You want proofreading and print ordering in the same place as your editorial notes.

A practical Reedsy + Your Book Pro workflow

  1. 1. Draft wherever suits you

Reedsy Studio is a pleasant place to write, and free.

  2. 2. Bring the manuscript into Your Book Pro for the editorial stage

Use Studio's backup route: Bookshelf > Manage > Exports > Back Up emails you a Word (.docx) copy of your manuscript. Import that file into Your Book Pro, which accepts PDF, DOCX, DOC, RTF, TXT and Markdown up to 15 MB. This is an ordinary manuscript-file handoff, not an integration.

  3. 3. Assess and revise

Run editorial feedback, a beta-reader report and the advisory source checks, then work the notes with the Editing Suite.

  4. 4. Choose your finish

Either produce your PDF and print files in Your Book Pro, or take the revised text back to Reedsy Studio for its typesetting and export it there.

  5. 5. Hire a human if the notes say you should

If the editorial read exposes a problem you cannot solve alone, that is exactly when the Reedsy Marketplace earns its fee.

Honest note on interoperability: Know the file directions. Reedsy Studio's publication exports are EPUB and print-ready PDF, but its backup route (Bookshelf > Manage > Exports > Back Up) emails a Word .docx you can import into Your Book Pro, and Studio itself imports .docx and .odt files. Your Book Pro exports a styled Word .docx on Pro, so the return trip is another ordinary file import into Studio. This is standard file interoperability - there is no native integration between the two products.

These are different things, not like-for-like. A named human editor reading your book brings judgement, taste and accountability that software does not. The comparison is about what each option costs and when each is worth it - not a claim that one replaces the other.

Frequently asked questions

Is Your Book Pro cheaper than hiring a Reedsy editor?

Yes, by a wide margin, but they are not the same product. A human developmental edit at around $2,880 for 80,000 words buys a professional's judgement and accountability. Software buys repeatable structured analysis. Many authors use the software first and hire a human for the pass that matters most.

Does Reedsy's 2 million+ figure mean 2 million paying users?

No. It is a community and platform reach claim covering Reedsy's whole ecosystem - blog readers, course subscribers, marketplace visitors and Studio users. It is not evidence of 2 million active paid Studio customers or marketplace clients.

Can I move a book between Reedsy Studio and Your Book Pro?

Yes, as ordinary files. Studio's backup route (Bookshelf > Manage > Exports > Back Up) emails a Word .docx you can import straight into Your Book Pro. Studio imports .docx and .odt, and Your Book Pro exports a styled Word .docx on Pro, so the return trip is the same kind of file import. Studio's publication exports remain EPUB and print-ready PDF. This is a file handoff, not a native integration.

Should I still use Reedsy Studio for formatting?

If you like its typesetting, absolutely. Your Book Pro also produces a complete reading PDF and printer-ready interior and cover files, so you can choose whichever output you prefer.
