What it does
The Suite enforces an order, and the order is the whole point. Structure first, because a line edit on a chapter that is about to be cut is money spent twice. Then the line and copy work, on a structure that has settled. Then the proofread, last, on the version that will actually be published.
You can work at book level or chapter level. A whole-book pass gives you the diagnosis; a chapter pass gives you the fix. Because it is one manuscript rather than four files emailed between four people, the second pass knows what the first one found — which is precisely what you lose when you hire freelancers separately.
However you write
It does not matter where the words came from. Type them here, upload a Word file, a Google Doc, a Scrivener compile or eleven chapter files, or speak them and edit the transcript. The Suite works on the manuscript, not on how it arrived — and most authors here use a mix.
The mistake: buying the passes out of order
Far more money is wasted on sequence than on rates.
Each editorial pass assumes the one above it is finished. A copy-edit is invalidated by a structural revision. A proofread is invalidated by a copy-edit. So the author who commissions a copy-edit first — because it is cheaper, and because it feels like the book is nearly done — and then discovers the middle act needs rebuilding, pays for that copy-edit twice.
It happens constantly, and it is not a failure of intelligence. It happens because nobody explains the order, and because 'editing' is sold as one word covering four different jobs at four different prices.
The Suite's answer is to hold the order for you. You can override it, and sometimes you should. But the default is the sequence a publisher would run.

One rule shapes all of it. Your words are stored as Exact Text and are never overwritten. Every suggestion arrives attached to a place in your manuscript, and nothing changes until you accept it. Where most writing tools quietly rewrite you into their own register, this one shows you the change and waits. Even the automatic clean-up pass is held to a length check — if it drifts too far from what you actually wrote, the edit is thrown away and you keep your own words. The editorial standards behind the feedback are our own, written for books and specific to your genre, not a general assistant answering in a good mood.
The Editing Suite is where the editing actually happens — the one stop for every book and chapter edit, with the four passes held in the right order on a single manuscript. It is the Edit tab, and it is distinct from the Ask the Editor pill in the top right, which is for a single question rather than a pass. Individual tools — Proofread, Light Edit, Detailed Editorial Feedback, Beta Reader — can still be run on their own if that is all you need.
For a manuscript going to literary agents, a human developmental editor still carries market judgement no rubric holds — what an acquiring editor responds to this year, and why. Use the Suite to arrive at that conversation with a much better draft, which is also a cheaper one: editors price on the state of the manuscript.
Where it stops
The Suite runs the passes and holds the order. What it does not have is a person who has sold books in your genre and knows what the market is buying. For a book heading to agents, that conversation is worth having — and a manuscript that has already been through a structural pass will get a shorter, cheaper quote from any editor you approach.
Where to find it
The Editing Suite is the Edit tab — the one place all the book and chapter editing lives. It is separate from Ask the Editor, the pill in the top right that follows you everywhere and answers a single question about your manuscript at the moment you have it. The pill is for asking; the Suite is for doing.
