What it does
The check sends the current whole manuscript to a stylistic-perception model in manageable parts. It looks for patterns an experienced editor may associate with machine-written prose, then combines the part results into an advisory score and a list of exact passages. It does not compare your draft with suggestion history or an authorship ledger.

It assesses the words currently in the manuscript. It cannot know who wrote them, how much AI was actually used, or whether a publisher or retailer requires disclosure.
The mistake: treating a style estimate as proof
No automated detector can prove who wrote a book or calculate how much was generated by AI. A low score is not evidence of authorship and a high score is not evidence of misconduct. Use the flagged passages as editorial prompts, then answer each platform’s disclosure question from what actually happened in your writing process.
