Tools for authors
Love Scrivener? Supercharge it with Your Book Pro.
Scrivener is brilliant at what it does.
It gives serious writers somewhere to plan, organise, research and write a long-form project without forcing an entire book into one enormous document.
So if you already love writing in Scrivener, we're not going to suggest you stop.
Quite the opposite.
Keep Scrivener.
Add Your Book Pro.

We're building a way for Scrivener authors to bring their existing project into Your Book Pro, use a new set of author tools around it, and take the project back to Scrivener whenever they want.
Think of it as adding another layer to the writing setup you already love.
Scrivener + Your Book Pro.
Bring the book you've already built
A Scrivener project can contain much more than a manuscript.
You may already have chapters and scenes, synopses, character notes, places, research, ideas and years of material accumulated while writing.
Our aim isn't to flatten all of that into one giant text file.
We want Your Book Pro to understand it as a book.
Your manuscript remains your manuscript. Chapters remain chapters. Planning material stays useful to your Book Plan. Research remains research.
Then you choose which additional tools you want to use.
Add an Editor who has read your book
Ask the Editor can work with the context of the book you're actually writing.
Ask whether a character disappears for too long.
Ask whether the middle of your memoir is losing momentum.
Ask whether Chapter 7 is doing enough work.
Ask whether your structure delivers what your opening promises.
Instead of asking a blank chatbot a generic writing question, you're asking about your book.
The Editor advises.
You decide.
Add feedback on the shape of your book
Sometimes the problem isn't the prose.
It's the shape of the book.
Your Book Pro can examine your plan and chapter structure before you spend another six months polishing individual paragraphs.
For a novel, that might mean looking at character development, pace or structure.
For memoir, it might mean identifying where a reader needs more context or where the central thread gets lost.
For non-fiction, it might mean asking whether the argument builds convincingly and whether every chapter earns its place.

Add deeper editorial feedback
When you're ready, Your Book Pro can look more deeply at the manuscript itself.
Not just spelling and grammar.
Detailed Editorial Feedback can examine structure, clarity, pace, argument, character, repetition, gaps and reader expectations.
And because Your Book Pro is built specifically around books, the assessment changes according to what you're writing.
A memoir shouldn't be assessed as if it were a business book.
A children's book shouldn't be treated like a thriller.
Your Book Pro gives you another informed opinion.
You remain the author.
Add a Beta Reader
You've lived with your manuscript for months.
Perhaps years.
Eventually, it becomes almost impossible to experience it like somebody opening it for the first time.
That's what Your Book Pro's Beta Reader is designed to help with.
It works through the manuscript as a reader, tracking what it understands, what it expects, what interests it, the questions it has and where it becomes confused.
You can use different Beta Readers and compare their reactions.
One reader's opinion shouldn't dictate a book.
Several different reactions can be extremely revealing.

Add a Proof Read
When the bigger decisions have been made, Your Book Pro can perform a manuscript-level Proof Read.
It looks for spelling, grammar, punctuation, incorrect or missing words and passages that may not make sense as intended.
Suggested corrections are there for you to review, not silently imposed on your writing.
If an unusual phrase sounds like you, you can keep it.
It's still your book.
Add dictation when you don't want to type
Sometimes you know exactly what happens next.
You just don't feel like typing it.
Your Book Pro lets you dictate directly into your book.
Speak the scene.
Tell the story.
Explain the argument.
Recall the memory.
Then work with those words alongside the rest of your manuscript.
For writers who have spent years at a keyboard, discovering that part of a book can simply be spoken can be surprisingly liberating.
Add the material sitting outside Scrivener
Some of your best material may not be in your Scrivener project at all.
It could be sitting in podcast episodes, interviews, lectures, sermons or other recordings.
Your Book Pro can analyse recorded source material, identify its strongest themes and messages and help you work out what belongs in the book you're developing.
It doesn't assume one recording equals one chapter.
The recordings are source material.
The book is something you create from them.
Keep research as research
Scrivener users often have substantial Research folders.
We think that distinction matters.
Your manuscript is one thing.
Your own source material is another.
And somebody else's article, paper, interview or book that you're consulting is research.
As we build Scrivener import, we're designing Your Book Pro to preserve those distinctions rather than pouring everything into the manuscript.
Research should help you understand your subject and support your writing without quietly becoming your prose.
Add another pair of eyes without giving away authorship
There's a principle running through all of these tools.
Your Book Pro isn't here to write your book for you.
Ask the Editor can disagree with you.
An editorial assessment can identify a problem.
A Beta Reader can get confused.
A Proof Read can suggest a correction.
You can say no to every one of them.
We think useful technology for authors should give writers access to more help, not take the writing away from them.
Add help when the manuscript becomes a book
Writing "The End" isn't really the end.
Your Book Pro also helps with the journey from manuscript towards a finished book, including preparation, publishing decisions and print.
So you don't have to assemble a completely new collection of tools when the writing is finally done.
Supercharge the Scrivener workflow you already love
You don't need to choose between Scrivener and Your Book Pro.
Keep writing and organising your book in Scrivener.
Add Your Book Pro when you want an editor, beta readers, proofreading, dictation, source analysis or help preparing the manuscript for the world.
And as we build round-trip Scrivener support, the aim is simple:
Scrivener → Your Book Pro → Scrivener
Use each tool for what it does best.
Your book. Your workflow. More help when you want it.
